Case Studies

Le Col approached Woodway UK to review alternative packaging for their online sales of luxury cycle-wear products. The packaging needed to enhance the brand and customer experience and move away from the use of transparent polythene bags placed in outer padded bags. As a relatively new company their volumes of online orders were still low so this needed to be considered for cost impact.

Woodway UK’s Technical Team started with a simple box structure, standard FEFCO 0427, to keep costs low. This was modified into an ecommerce pack with an easy, hand erect mechanism eliminating the need for glued joints. The addition of a tear-strip enabled frustration-free opening enhancing the consumer experience. Adding two double-sided tape strips meant the pack was easy to seal for operatives and could be reused by customers to return items.

The visual design of the pack was important to bring the brand closer to the consumer. Utilising consistent imagery with their website. The in-box design incorporated images of roads, mountains and a cyclist to appeal to the audience. Also incorporated was a quote from Le Col’s CEO adding a personal touch to the design. When opened, the box offers a ‘wow’ factor to the consumer reflecting the premium quality of the products ordered.

To protect the box externally from dust and dirt a clay coated finish for the outer was recommended. As a result, the final pack was printed using flexo, 1-colour print plus varnish onto clay coated paper to the outer face.  The interior of the box was printed litho in 2-colours and varnished to the inside face to seal the print to eliminate ink run.
